NEWHALL — Jessica De La Cerda of Hart High, the runner-up in the 1,600 meters in the Southern Section Division I track and field championships last month, will attend Oklahoma State in the fall on a full athletic scholarship.
De La Cerda chose Oklahoma State over Adams State, an NCAA Division II school in Colorado that offered a three-quarter scholarship. “I really liked the school and the town,” De La Cerda said. “Everything was nice and green there and the people were really laid back and nice.”
De La Cerda, who plans to major in either pre-veterinary science or physical therapy, has a personal best of 5 minutes 5.76 seconds in the 1,600. She won the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 in this year’s Foothill League finals.
In other news, Kristin Kabo of Kennedy will attend UC Davis in the fall. Kabo placed second in the 3,200 in the City Section championships last month and has a personal best of 11:38.09.
