‘Bram Stoker’s Dracula’
This enjoyable 1992 release might be more aptly titled “Francis Coppola’s Dracula,” for Coppola brings to the umpteenth retelling of Stoker’s 1897 novel the grand operatic style of his “Godfather” movies--plus considerable sensuality and affectionate tongue-in-cheek play. Gary Oldman (pictured) is suitably world-weary as Dracula, and Winona Ryder (pictured) his winsome principal victim. The starry cast includes Anthony Hopkins, Keanu Reeves and most memorably, Tom Waits as Renfield, the grotesque early victim of the Transylvanian count. A lush period production, with Eiko Ishioka winning an Oscar for her opulent costumes. (HBO Monday at 8 p.m.)
