HI VISTA — Four hours after allegedly shooting a man, Teodoro Sanchez Huerta was arrested when he returned to his Hi Vista home, the scene of the killing.
The victim, Joaquin F. Bonilla, 43, also of Hi Vista, was shot several times in his upper body Sunday afternoon while standing in Huerta’s front yard, Sheriff’s Deputy Fidel Gonzales said. Bonilla died at the scene, and Huerta, 35, fled in a pickup truck, Gonzales said.
The two men, who were acquaintances, were arguing before the shooting, said homicide Sgt. Lynn Reeder. “As far as the real motive behind the argument, that’s being investigated,” Reeder said.
Homicide detectives and sheriff’s deputies were investigating the incident in this remote, unincorporated area Sunday evening when Huerta returned to his home. He was arrested on suspicion of murder.
Huerta was being held Monday without bail at the Antelope Valley Sheriff’s Station and is expected to be arraigned today. Investigators recovered the rifle believed to have been used in the shooting, Reeder said.
