San Juan Capistrano : Community Center Construction OKd

The City Council has approved construction of the first portion of a 32,000-square-foot community center, and ball fields for baseball, softball and soccer.
The $3.8-million project, at Camino del Avion and Alipaz Street, is being paid in part from a 1990 local bond measure.
Council members said the project should provide facilities for youth sports as well as seniors who have wanted the center.
Councilman Gary L. Hausdorfer said he didn’t view the decision as one that pitted seniors against youth.
The council vote was 4 to 0 Tuesday. Councilman Jeff Vasquez was absent.
