Bell 17, Jefferson 0--Vern Benard rushed for 215 yards in 26 carries to lead the Eagles in a Southeastern Conference game.
Leading 7-0 early in the fourth quarter, Bell had the ball at its eight-yard line when Benard ran 74 yards on a sweep to the Jefferson 26. Two plays later, quarterback Gus Valenzuela hit Gary Guerrero for a 27-yard touchdown pass to increase Bell’s lead to 14-0.
Jefferson’s only threat came in the third quarter when the Democrats drove to Bell’s 25-yard line. But the Eagles forced a fumble in the Jefferson backfield and recovered the ball at its 37-yard line.
Bell defensive back Dulio Orellano had three interceptions, returning one 48 yards. Jefferson’s top runner, Isaac Hatley, was held to 14 yards in eight carries.
