REGION : Cities Drop Lawsuit Over Port Expansion

A lawsuit that had temporarily stalled the $1.8-billion Alameda Corridor project has been dropped by four cities along the route.
Attorneys representing Compton, Lynwood, South Gate and Vernon filed papers in Superior Court last month to dismiss the lawsuit against the Port of Long Beach. Port officials had pulled out of the project in August, contending they could not negotiate corridor matters with cities that were suing the port. Port officials resumed work on the project after the suit was withdrawn.
The cities agreed to drop the lawsuit after the port promised to include in the environmental impact report a statement that the Alameda Corridor will mitigate Pier J traffic.
