New Home Sales Rise: American home buyers ignored rising mortgage rates in October and boosted sales of new houses for the fourth straight month to their highest level of the year. Sales rose 1.3% in October to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 726,000 units, the Commerce Department reported. That was the highest since 817,000 last December. New home sales rose in all regions except the Northeast. They were up 14.4% in the West.
