The 45th Berlin International Film Festival will open on Thursday, with about 700 movies scheduled to be shown over 12 days, including 19 premiere showings.
About two dozen films have been nominated for the prestigious festival’s Golden Bear and Silver Bear awards, including seven films from the United States and five--an unusually high percentage--from Asia.
The festival will also feature a retrospective of the films of the late American comedian Buster Keaton. French actor Alain Delon will receive a Golden Bear for his life’s accomplishments.
