27 Die in Brazil Rains

SAO PAULO, Brazil — Heavy rains caused landslides and flooding in Brazil’s largest city Tuesday, killing 15 people and leaving thousands homeless, officials said. The intense rainfall loosened Sao Paulo hillsides, and mudslides dragged down poorly built houses and buried their inhabitants.
At least 27 people have died in Sao Paulo in the last week, when the rainfall has exceeded the normal average for the whole month of February.
