Columbia/HCA Sued by Orlando Healthcare: Columbia/HCA Healthcare Corp.’s proposed $3.44-billion acquisition of HealthTrust Inc. is being opposed in an antitrust lawsuit filed by Orlando Regional Healthcare System Inc. The suit, which was filed in U.S. District Court in Orlando, Fla., charges that the acquisition would violate federal antitrust laws because it would create a monopoly in Florida. The suit also contends that HealthTrust failed to abide by the obligations of its joint venture agreement with the Orlando Regional Healthcare System because it didn’t offer to let the regional health care operator buy out the venture.
