A 16-year-old youth was shot after a group of apparent gang members confronted him and his friends outside a south Oxnard condominium complex, police said Wednesday.
Investigators said the teen-ager was standing with a group in the 1400 block of Casa San Carlos Lane about 8:15 p.m. Tuesday. The group was approached by three youths who began shouting gang slogans, police said.
One suspect pulled a gun and began shooting at the victim, police said. Officers called to the scene found the youth, who was not identified by investigators, wounded.
“My understanding is that it was a fairly minor wound to the abdomen,” Oxnard Police Sgt. Cliff Troy said Wednesday.
Officials at St. John’s Regional Medical Center refused to discuss the case Wednesday.
The suspects fled east through the complex and were not found. The case has been turned over to the Police Department’s gang unit for investigation, Troy said.
