PACOIMA — A 2-month-old San Fernando girl died Wednesday from injuries received when her family’s car was struck by a motorist who ran a stop sign and was killed in the collision, authorities said.
Vanessa Hernandez, who had not been secured in a car seat, died from her injuries at 7:33 a.m. at Harbor-UCLA Hospital, said Scott Carrier of the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.
The driver of the four-wheel-drive truck who ran the stop sign at Fox Street and Oneida Avenue Tuesday night was identified as Sixto Castaneda, 34, of San Fernando, said Detective Tom Whetzel of the Los Angeles Police Department. Castaneda died at the scene of the accident, he added.
The dead baby’s mother was listed in critical condition at Northridge Hospital Medical Center, police said.
Vanessa’s two brothers, ages 2 and 3, and her father were all listed in good condition at Pacifica of the Valley Hospital, said Whetzel.
