COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Olsen Homer Leads Titans in Exhibition

Pinch-hitter D.C. Olsen hit a home run with two outs in the bottom of the 10th inning to give Cal State Fullerton a 7-6 victory over South Korea’s Kyunghee University in an exhibition baseball game Wednesday at Fullerton.

Relief pitcher Kimson Hollibaugh gave up two runs in 4 1/3 innings and earned the victory.

Right fielder Jeremy Giambi hit a two-run triple in Fullerton’s four-run third inning and had a two-run home run in the fifth. Fullerton held leads of 4-1 and 6-2 before Kyunghee scored four runs in three innings to tie the score. Kyunghee outhit the Titans, 15-11.

In Golden State Athletic Conference men’s tennis:

Southern California College 9, Biola 0--Mattias Johansson beat Billy Ray Geisler in No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-1, for the Vanguards. SCC’s Davey Robbins and Ryan Lewis won, 6-0, 6-1, in No. 1 doubles. SCC is 2-1, 2-0.

In nonconference women’s tennis:

Texas Arlington 7, UC Irvine 2--Antje Fritschi and Rachel Buenviaje were the only winners for the host Anteaters (0-6). Fritschi beat Patricia Quisoboni, 7-5, 7-5, at No. 2 singles and Buenviaje beat Ana Barnjanovic, 6-3, 7-6, at No. 6.

Jana Turkova of Texas Arlington beat Janet Johnson, 6-1, 4-6, 7-5, in a No. 1 singles match that lasted nearly three hours.

In Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men’s volleyball:

UCLA 3, UC Irvine 0--Paul Nihipali, a sophomore from Esperanza High, had 16 kills and Jeff Nygaard had 15 kills, five digs and four blocks for the top-ranked Bruins (10-0, 7-0), who won 15-7, 15-5, 15-6. Leland Quinn had 15 kills for the host Anteaters (4-4, 3-4).
