Golden West College has named Ray Smith women’s soccer coach, Athletic Director Tom Hermstead announced Wednesday. Smith’s hiring is expected to be approved by the Coast Community College District in March.
Smith’s hiring revives the Rustler women’s soccer program. Last season, Golden West canceled its season Oct. 10, three games into its schedule. The Rustlers forfeited their remaining 13 conference games because of a lack of players.
Smith, 29, coached women’s soccer at UC Irvine from 1990-93, compiling a 39-35-5 record. He played and was an assistant coach at Biola and also coached at Chapman.
