OXNARD : Money Question Stalls Pool Project

Plans to build a state-of-the-art swimming pool at the new Oxnard High School have been put on hold until the district can find funds for the project.

During a board meeting Wednesday night, district trustees rejected three bids for the project, saying they are not sure whether they can afford the $1.4-million pool, said Richard Canady, acting assistant superintendent for business services.

The plan calls for construction of a 25- by 35-yard pool at the city’s new high school at Gonzales Road, scheduled to open this fall.

“The board is still committed to build the pool,” Canady said. “We just don’t know when the district will be able to afford the project.”

Officials expect to know whether they have the funds to build the swimming pool by January, 1996, Canady said.
