THIS COULD BE THE START OF SOMETHING STUPID (Fireside: $8.95; 128 pp., paperback original). This collection of drawings from the Cartoon Bank Inc., “a multi-media data base featuring over 10,000 cartoons,” unfortunately lives up to its title. New Yorker regulars Jack Ziegler and Mick Stephens provide their usual laughs, but most of the other artists fail to find much humor in dating and relationships. The male cartoonists rely on stale sexist gags aimed at women; the female artists employ an equally abrasive sexism aimed at men.
