About 2,000 Customers Lose Phone Service

LAGUNA NIGUEL — About 2,000 homes and businesses in a northern section of Laguna Niguel were without telephone service Saturday and could remain without working phones until about noon today, a phone company official said.
The outage began about 12:30 p.m. Saturday after water seeped into a cable splice case near the intersection of Aliso Creek Road and Doan Road, said Dave Dickstein, a spokesman for Pacific Bell.
Because residential and business customers in the affected area were unable to make emergency calls, both the Orange County Fire Department and Orange County Sheriff’s Department put extra units there Saturday, authorities said.
All customers are expected to have phone service restored by noon today, Dickstein said.
