Senior Officer Herman (Butch) Hale has been named officer of the year by the Simi Valley Police Department.
An 18-year veteran of the police force, Hale, 40, was given a certificate for outstanding police service during a brief ceremony last week at the office of state Sen. Cathie Wright (R-Simi Valley).
He was selected for the award by fellow officers.
“I’m kind of proud of it,” Hale said before Friday’s ceremony. “It is something I never thought I would get.”
Hale started his career in law enforcement in 1975 as an Anaheim police cadet and began working for Simi Valley’s Police Department in 1977.
His 20-year career continues to be rewarding, Hale said.
“If someone needs help, you (give) it,” he said. “I think that is one of the things I enjoy, helping people.”
