Undercover officers arrested 33 men and two women for attempting to buy cocaine during a 5 1/2-hour sting operation, police said Friday.
“We basically called it quits . . . because they couldn’t handle any more. They were backed up at the jail,” said Los Angeles Police Lt. Bernie Larralde of the department’s narcotics group. “It just demonstrates there’s a big problem out there.”
If charged and convicted, those arrested each could face a $10,000 fine for the felony, Larralde said.
Beginning at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, undercover officers at the corner of Ceres Avenue and 6th Street arrested one suspect at a time, Larralde said, and worked at a steady pace.
He said 15 to 20 cars also were impounded as a result of the arrests.
“We could still be out there arresting them,” Larralde said.
