A large fund-raising dinner at which former President Gerald R. Ford was expected to be among the guests has been postponed by a Vietnamese American group because of security fears, an organizer said Tuesday.
At the recommendation of the FBI, the organization Beyond 20 canceled the Friday dinner at which they had hoped to raise $60,000 for a Vietnam Monument to Freedom, said Joseph Byers, a Beyond 20 spokesman.
“The decision was based on the FBI’s concern that we should postpone it because of a recent series of terrorist threats and incidents,” including the Oklahoma City bombing, Byers said.
The list of invited guests who had confirmed attendance included Ford and several members of Congress, Byers said.
The dinner was scheduled for the Irvine Marriott hotel. It will be rescheduled, organizers said.
