COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Fullerton’s Vonusa Comes Back to Win Conference Tennis Title

Top-seeded Debbie Vonusa of Fullerton lost her opening set to unseeded Michelle Turner of Golden West, but rallied for a 0-6, 6-1, 6-1 victory in the finals of the Orange Empire Conference women’s tennis tournament Tuesday at Saddleback College.
Turner, who was the Rustlers’ No. 4 player, defeated three consecutive seeded opponents to reach the championship round. Vonusa finished the season 22-0.
In doubles play, Fullerton’s Michelle Caravajal and Lisa Salyer defeated Golden West’s Leila Ryan and Stella Tran, 7-6, 3-6, 6-4.
In Orange Empire Conference baseball:
Fullerton 8, Golden West 6--Ryan Golisano (6-2) gave up 10 hits and two earned runs for Fullerton (28-11-1, 11-9), which fell behind, 3-0, after the first inning. Tom Fill had a double, a triple, a run scored and one run batted in for Golden West (11-28, 3-17).
Orange Coast 7, Cypress 6--Nick Valencia was five for five, including three doubles, and drove in the winning run in the eighth to lead Orange Coast (20-18, 10-9) in the upset of conference-leading Cypress (29-10, 14-6), which shares a tie for the lead in the conference with Rancho Santiago.
Rancho Santiago 15, Saddleback 10--Kyle Evans was four for five with two RBIs and two runs scored and Tony Zuniga was two for four with three RBIs to lead Rancho Santiago (30-9, 14-6). The Dons are tied with Cypress for first place in the conference with four games left.
