SANTA ANA — Despite some good-natured heckling from his teammates, senior Scott Redfox pitched a no-hitter as No. 5 Canyon beat Foothill, 9-0, in a Century League game Tuesday at Foothill.
Redfox (4-2), who allowed only two fly balls to the outfield, struck out seven and walked one. The walk, to No. 9 hitter Erik Eidenmuller, came with two outs in the fifth.
Redfox, No. 4 in the county in runs batted in before the game, also had a three-run double in the third. He went one for three and scored two runs. He also was hit by a pitch.
Though he credited his teammates’ defense for the victory, Redfox said they believed he’d choke in the final inning.
“They were trying to jinx me,” Redfox said. “They kept saying I couldn’t do it.”
Canyon, the Century League champion, improved to 20-4, 12-2 in league; Foothill fell to 8-15-1, 4-10.
