At the start of the season, Ricketts, from Alhambra High, stated one major goal was to qualify for the State tournament. Not only did he reach it, but he won it May 8 at Del Rio Country Club in Modesto. He shot 75 in the morning, then 72 in the afternoon to finish at 147. His performance helped Cypress finish in fourth place, the highest in the college’s history. He was coming off a second-place finish at the Southern California regional at Rancho California.
