Energy: Issues Surrounding Operation of BreitBurn Oil Field

I read with interest your recent article regarding BreitBurn Energy [“Residents Protest Firm’s Planned Expansion of Oil Field Operation,” April 30.] I live close to BreitBurn’s operation and walk by it regularly. I do not smell odors coming from the site, nor do I hear any more noise from the site than I do from normal traffic and business in the area.
What I do recognize about the facility is that it is extremely well maintained and landscaped, with no litter or graffiti marring the site. I really don’t understand why some people are complaining.
