What’s Love Got to Do With It (TMC Saturday at 7 p.m.) is an extraordinary biopic about Tina Turner, starring Angela Bassett as Tina and Laurence Fishburne as Ike. It’s a harrowing movie that gets deep inside Tina’s brutalization. It goes much further in this genre than any other comparable biography film.
Harry and Tonto (TMC Monday at 12:10 p.m.) is a wonderful 1974 Paul Mazursky film starring Art Carney as a curmudgeon who goes on a cross-country odyssey. Carney won an Academy Award for best actor for his performance. This film has qualities of feeling and insight that set it apart from most movies about cantankerous coots.
