If your child has a hankering for one of those red, white and blue frozen ice “bombs” sold out of the friendly neighborhood ice cream truck, you might want to make sure the issue is ice cream.
Long Beach Fire Department Capt. C. W. Munson warns that ice cream trucks have been used as fronts for illegal fireworks sales, especially with the Fourth of July at hand. Last year, fire marshals caught the operators of more than 40 ice cream trucks selling explosives.
“We routinely stop and search ice cream trucks,” Munson said. “The season really begins next week and we’ll see a lot of activity then.” The fireworks offered typically include firecrackers, the sale of which is a felony . . .
