Darryl Strawberry, beginning his comeback from a drug suspension, will report to the New York Yankees’ minor league complex today and hold a news conference.

Scheduled San Diego starter Fernando Valenzuela will be relegated to the bullpen after the Padres purchased the contract of triple-A Las Vegas left-hander Glenn Dishman, who will make his major league debut instead today against the Colorado Rockets. The Padres also optioned reliever Jeff Tabaka to Las Vegas. . . . The New York Mets, who have talked about building a domed stadium in Queens, are now thinking about a multipurpose sports and entertainment complex near Belmont Park on Long Island. The year 2000 is the target date to open the new facility. . . . Representatives for baseball players and owners renewed their low-level talks in New Yor but again were unable to resolve any major issues. . . . The Houston Astros acquired outfielder Derrick May from the Milwaukee Brewers in exchange for a minor league player to be named. May is the son of former major leaguer Dave May.
