Accord Ends 7-Month Feud Between Street Vendors’ Groups

Signaling the end of a seven-month feud, two factions of street vendors have reached an agreement that may boost efforts by one of the groups to legalize its trade on the Eastside.

Last month’s agreement between vendors from the Pico-Union district and a Boyle Heights group settles a dispute over money, property and documents belonging to the Asociacion de Vendedores Ambulantes. Both groups belonged to AVA before philosophical differences split the organization into two factions last summer.

Under the settlement, property such as office furniture will be divided and all files will be shared, said attorney Kwaku Duren of the Eastside group. Eastside vendors will take the association’s name; the Pico-Union group will be known as Asociacion de Vendedores Ambulantes de Los Angeles.
