Clinton Considering D’Amato Aide for SEC Post: Laura Unger, a Senate Banking Committee counsel who was a Securities and Exchange Commission enforcement attorney for two years, has received the backing of both Sen. Alfonse M. D’Amato (R-N.Y.) and SEC Chairman Arthur Levitt Jr., according to two legislative aides who asked that their names not be used. Earlier this month, President Clinton nominated Isaac Hunt, a University of Akron Law School professor, and Norman Johnson, a Utah securities lawyer, to fill two of the three open seats on the commission. White House officials declined to say how far along they are in their consideration of Unger. Unger, 34, declined to comment, as did D’Amato’s office, the SEC and the White House.
