Central Los Angeles : Families in Cemetery Debacle to Gather
- Share via
Families whose loved ones were buried at a cemetery where officials found evidence of illegal disinterment and resale of graves will gather Sunday for a service at a South-Central Los Angeles church.
State officials closed Paradise Memorial Park in Santa Fe Springs last month after discovering remains had been dug up and cast aside so plots could be resold. Operators also allegedly buried more than one person in graves without relatives’ permission.
Jessie Hudson Gordon, who organized the service and whose husband was buried at Paradise in 1972, said she frequently gets calls from relatives of those buried at the cemetery. “It’s hard to put it behind you,” Hudson Gordon said. “I just want the people to come and get a little spiritual comfort.”
The service will be at 3:30 p.m. at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 8305 S. Gramercy Place.
