A 34-year-old man was struck and killed by a car Tuesday night as he dashed across South El Camino Real from a motel where he had checked in less than two hours earlier.
Reece Berryhill Williams was struck at 8:14 p.m. by a 1995 Chevrolet Camaro, Sheriff’s officials said.
He was treated by paramedics and taken to Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center in Mission Viejo, where he died.
Williams had checked into the San Clemente Motor Lodge at 6:20 p.m., a clerk there said. He checked in alone, without a car, and listed a San Clemente address as his home, but coroner’s officials said he has no immediate family in the area. Police later found identification listing a Florida address.
Witnesses saw Williams sprinting across the traffic lanes before he was struck. Another motorist avoided hitting him, but the driver of the Camaro did not see him and struck him without slowing down, Lt. Ron Wilkerson said. She was traveling about 40 m.p.h.
No one was cited in connection with the accident.
