Malinalli Martinez, a Bishop Amat senior cross-country runner, won the Colton Invitational last weekend at Colton High in 18 minutes 50 seconds. It was the beginning of what is forecast as a strong season for the Lancers’ top runner. Last season, she was an All-Southern Section selection in the San Gabriel Valley and the Del Rey League’s female athlete of the year. “In the Colton she showed her strength, which is to start quick,” Bishop Amat Coach Bryan Hayward said. “She is a tremendous competitor and has the best work ethic of any of our runners.”
