A survey of Internet access found that 3.7% of American adults are on-line and that most are men who make between $25,000 and $75,000 a year. The survey, commissioned by Internet publishers O’Reilly & Associates and Trish Information Services, found that 5.8 million Americans have direct access to the global computer network. A further 3.9 million subscribe to commercial on-line services.
