Dressing the Part

Until recently, Canyon High Coach Larry Mohr has dressed like anyone but the coach of a football team called the Cowboys.
Mohr has looked more like a beachcomber in his usual ensemble of shorts, a tank top and wrap-around sunglasses. But then this season he--and his coaching staff--started wearing 10-gallon hats.
“I’m not a surfer; I’ve always been a cowboy,” said Mohr, who grew up in Thousand Oaks.
The hats came from Tim McKeon, president of the Canyon football booster club. Said Mohr, whose team is 1-2: “I don’t wear it during games. I might break it. I might wing it out there in the center of the field.”
Mohr and his staff still wear tank tops, shorts and sneakers to practices. “The players probably think we’re a bunch of geeks,” he said.
