San Gabriel Valley : MOZART AT THE ROSE

An outdoor amphitheater to rival the Hollywood Bowl as a venue for classics may be in the works for Pasadena’s Rose Bowl.
A group of Pasadena business leaders, who are proposing to turn the south end of the bowl into a 15,000- to 20,000-seat venue for summer concerts, met Thursday with the board of the Rose Bowl Operating Co. to work out a development agreement.
“With the backdrop of [the] San Gabriel Mountains, it would be a wonderful venue for a symphony, the Pasadena Pops, or even Garth Brooks or Barbra Streisand,” said Jack French, who along with Mike Ward and Dick Taylor is promoting the concept.
“We think it’s a good idea, and we want to work with them to make it possible,” said Rose Bowl general manager David Jacobs.
