WESTMINSTER — Marina running back Mike Williams rushed for a game-high 215 yards and two touchdowns, leading the Vikings to a 27-19 nonleague victory over Ocean View Thursday night at Westminster High.
Williams scored his first touchdown on a 43-yard run with 11:40 left in the second quarter, then clinched the victory with a 20-yard dash late in the game.
Ocean View (2-3) began the scoring on a two-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Jeff Taylor to Tim Wind in the first quarter.
After Marina (2-3) answered with two touchdowns, Ocean View’s Jeremy Armendariz scored on a six-yard run midway through the second quarter for a 13-12 Seahawk lead.
On the ensuing kickoff, James Owen dropped the ball, picked it up and juked his way through the middle and down the right sideline for a 78-yard touchdown that gave Marina a 20-13 halftime lead.
After Mike Ketcham blocked a Marina punt and recovered it at the Viking 14 early in the fourth quarter, Ocean View had a chance to tie after a two-yard touchdown run by Taylor.
However, Marina’s Eric Maag blocked the extra-point attempt, preserving a 20-19 lead.
Ocean View had one more possession in the fourth quarter but turned the ball over on downs at its 27. Williams scored from 20 yards out three plays later to clinch the victory.
