Re “Clinton Clarifies Remark on Taxes, Defends Hikes,” Oct. 20:
Raised our taxes too much! Here is a leader who deducted used shorts from his income tax. Said he had to raise the taxes because the Republicans made him do it! His mother told him to never speak after 7 p.m., as he would be too tired and make a mistake! This is the man who wants to send 20,000 troops with guns to keep peace in Bosnia, where there is no plan as yet! Can’t we have adult behavior from the leader of the free world?

* I am wondering why President Clinton’s gaffe on raising taxes was reported two days after the remark was made. His exact remarks were not included. He specifically said, “The Republicans made me do it.” If a non-Democratic President or candidate had made such remarks, would such an article be relegated to A18? I doubt it!

* The President’s incredible excuse for the 1993 tax hike has a familiar ring: “The devil made me do it.”
