Police are asking for the public’s help in finding the pickup truck driver responsible for the hit-and-run death of a 93-year-old man in Hollywood this week.
Benvenuto Hernandez died at 7:50 a.m. Wednesday of head injuries suffered when he was hit by a pickup Tuesday evening as he crossed Melrose Avenue at RidgewoodPlace, said Officer Edward Masline.
The driver and passenger of the 1977 Chevrolet pickup stopped briefly after the accident and then fled without attempting to help Hernandez, he said.
Police are seeking the driver, described as a Latino man between 25 and 30 years old, or anyone who may have seen the accident. The truck, which had been reported stolen, was found abandoned Wednesday in East Los Angeles.
Anyone with information is asked to call the West Traffic Division at (310) 202-4545.
