As cameras flashed and trumpets blared, hundreds of spectators watched Thursday as 1996 Rose Queen Keli V. Hutchins was crowned under a big-top tent on the lawn of Pasadena’s Tournament House.
It was first public appearance as queen for Hutchins, a 17-year-old San Marino High School senior. She was chosen by the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Assn. from nearly 700 Pasadena-area young women for the honor of reigning over the 107th Rose Parade New Year’s Day and the 82nd Rose Bowl Game. The final selection was made from a seven-woman court of princesses earlier this month.
“It has been so magical--a day out of a fairy tale,” said Hutchins, after being crowned by Tournament President W. H. (Bud) Griest Jr.
