LA MIRADA — Jeff Perry scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter to pull Estancia within two points, but it wasn’t enough as La Mirada defeated the Eagles, 16-14, in the first round of the Division VIII Southern Section playoffs.
La Mirada (9-1-1) will face Bloomington next Friday in the second round.
Estancia (6-5) scored first when Chris Felix took the ball 66 yards in the first quarter, giving the Eagles a 7-0 lead.
La Mirada took the lead for good in the second quarter. The Matadors connected on a 12-yard touchdown pass to pull within one point after a failed extra-point attempt. La Mirada added a 46-yard field goal to take a 9-7 halftime lead.
