ANAHEIM — Kennedy extended its winning streak to nine games Friday night with a 21-6 victory over Westminster in a Southern Section Division V playoff game at Glover Stadium.
Kennedy (10-1) used a balanced offense led by running back Darin Martineau, who rushed for 145 yards and two touchdowns in 20 carries. Kennedy’s defense held an opponent to seven or fewer points for the seventh time this season.
Kennedy advances to the second round next week against Corona del Mar.
Westminster (6-5) scored on its opening first-quarter drive when Sparky Kale went in from the one with 6:35 left.
Kennedy tied the score on a nine-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Tom Haas to wide receiver Garrett Sabol with 2:04 left in the first quarter. Kennedy took the lead for good when Joe Paloney added the extra point.
Kennedy, the Empire League champion, moved ahead, 13-6, when Martineau scored from nine yards out with 5:01 left in the third quarter.
Martineau’s second touchdown came on a 66-yard run, giving Kennedy a 19-6 lead with 2:16 left in the game. Martineau added the two-point conversion.
