COLLEGE FOOTBALL : Manning Prevents Tennessee From Becoming Upset Special

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Tennessee’s Peyton Manning had been warned that Kentucky wasn’t always a pushover, so he was ready to give the No. 4 Volunteers the boost they needed to win.
“It was like I’d heard the Kentucky-Tennessee games were like,” Manning said after passing for two touchdowns and running for one in the second half, rallying Tennessee, 9-1 overall and 6-1 in the Southeastern Conference, to a 34-31 victory Saturday.
After posting 48-0 and 52-0 victories the past two seasons, Tennessee had a battle on its hands as Moe Williams sparked Kentucky (4-7, 2-6) with 151 yards and three touchdowns.
Tennessee overcame a 24-9 deficit in the third quarter to defeat Kentucky for the 11th consecutive season.
Manning completed 23 of 41 passes for 272 yards, but his school-record string of passes without an interception ended at 132 in the second quarter.
