HARD TO BEAR

Every story, anywhere, about the poaching and smuggling of wildlife pains me deeply (“Big Game, Big Business,” by Michael J. Goodman, Oct. 15). I wish that more money could be found to help stop the culprits and punish them. But if bear bile is in such demand, I’d rather see bears killed humanely than be caged and chained, as they are in China, “their bodies fitted with catheters or spigots” to be “milked for bile weekly.
It would seem as there is such a thing as a Holocaust for animals. Anyone who would torture another living creature deserves a bit of the same.
