COMMUNITY COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Orange Coast Advances to Second Round

Duane Curtis scored a game-high 17 points as Orange Coast defeated Victor Valley, 72-63, in a first-round game at the Orange Coast/Kiwanis Invitational Thursday at Orange Coast College.
The Pirates shot 57.6% in the first half to open a 39-24 lead.
Curtis made seven of 11 shots, including two of three three-pointers for Orange Coast (2-5). Matt Ambrose added 16 points and five rebounds.
In another Orange Coast/Kiwanis Invitational game:
Long Beach City 87, Irvine Valley 72--Irvine Valley (2-4) was outscored, 51-28, in the second half after leading by eight at the break. Josh Porter had 24 points for Irvine Valley.
In the Grossmont tournament:
Rancho Santiago 88, Grossmont 73--Tremain Ross scored 24 points and Chris Rose added 20 for Rancho Santiago (5-2) in the first round.
In the Las Vegas Invitational
Cypress 74, Palomar 67--Freshman Jeff Sand scored a team-high 16 points for Cypress (5-2) in the first round. Shane Miller had eight points and 10 rebounds for the Chargers.
In the Cuesta women’s basketball tournament:
Orange Coast 64, Hartnell 52--Kathleen Kelly, Jamie Shine, Adrienne Botana and Dianne Pulido each scored 11 points for Orange Coast.
In nonconference women’s basketball:
Irvine Valley 57, San Bernardino Valley 30--Irvine Valley raced to a 19-point halftime lead and improved its record to 7-0. Heather Robinson scored 18 points and Jen Nakanishi 15 for Irvine Valley.
