San Gabriel Valley : La Puente Mayor Denies Abusing Wife

The mayor of La Puente has pleaded not guilty to charges of spousal abuse and battery to a minor, authorities said Friday.
Lou Perez was arrested at his home Nov. 12 after sheriff’s deputies reportedly received a call from the mayor’s wife, authorities said. Perez entered the plea at his arraignment Thursday.
Arrest records have been sealed by court officials and no additional information about the incident was available Friday.
Rio Hondo Municipal Judge Peter Meeka issued a gag order at Perez’s arraignment and will decide at a Dec. 13 pretrial hearing whether to lift the order, court officials said.
A trial date has been set for Jan. 15.
