HOLLYWOOD PARK : Stevens to Undergo Knee Surgery Monday

Gary Stevens, who will ride Hennessy in the Futurity and unbeaten Advancing Star in Saturday’s $250,000 Hollywood Starlet, will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Monday. Stevens, Hollywood’s leading jockey and the No. 2 rider in the country behind Jerry Bailey, is expected to miss the last week of the Hollywood season and the first two weeks of the Santa Anita meet, which opens on Dec. 26.

Brendas Wildindian outsprinted Promo Tape for the early lead and held off Hallelujah Angel in the stretch for a two-length victory Thursday in the $36,000 feature at Hollywood Park.
Ridden by Corey Nakatani, Brendas Wildindian covered 5 1/2 furlongs in 1:04 3/5 and paid $8.40, $4 and $2.60.
Hallelujah Angel, the 8-5 favorite, returned $3.20 and $2.40. Ballasecret was third and paid $2.40.
The victory, worth $19,800, increased Brendas Wildindian’s career earnings to $304,560, with 11 victories in 34 starts.

When Hollywood Park spent about $700,000 to implode the vacant hotel on a corner of the track’s parking lot last Sunday, Richard Mandella, who trains Advancing Star, said that his horses weren’t bothered. “We turned up the stereo music to play it safe,” Mandella said.
