In the El Monte Arroyo girls’ basketball tournament:
Santa Margarita 44, Hacienda Heights Los Altos 37--Kate Toman scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for Santa Margarita (7-3).
In the Santa Barbara tournament:
Ocean View 36, Long Beach Millikan 28--Becky Fraser and Anna Lembke each scored nine points for Ocean View (4-2).
Fountain Valley 52, Santa Barbara 51--Jennifer Rizzo made one of two free throws with four seconds remaining for the Barons (7-1). Jennifer Ludwicki had 21 points and eight rebounds for Fountain Valley.
In nonleague girls’ basketball:
Mater Dei 79, Rosary 35--Melody Peterson scored 21 points and Rhonda Gondringer had 17 for third-ranked Mater Dei (5-2).
Katella 58, Fullerton 44--Diandra Jay scored 17 of her 20 points in the second half when Katella outscored Fullerton, 34-21. Catherine Painter had 18 points and 11 rebounds for Katella (5-6) and Jay made six three-pointers.
Santiago 49, Orange 23--Angie Ching-Sam scored nine of her 23 points in the first quarter when Santiago (3-6) took a 17-0 lead.
Esperanza 60, Villa Park 48--Tenth-ranked Esperanza put the game away by outscoring the visiting Spartans, 23-8, in the third quarter to take a 13-point lead.
Diane Severinsen scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds and Lindsay Foss also scored 16 for the Aztecs (9-1).
In the San Dieguito boys’ basketball tournament:
Santa Margarita 69, Las Vegas 54--Santa Margarita, ranked seventh in Orange County, opened the game by outscoring Las Vegas, 18-7, in the first quarter and the Eagles advanced to the semifinals where they will meet Carson at 6:20 p.m. tonight.
Allen Krist led the way for Santa Margarita (7-1), scoring 27 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
In nonleague boys’ basketball:
Orange 47, Laguna Beach 40--Orange trailed by four points after three quarters, but outscored the Artists, 23-12, in the fourth. Juan Dotson scored 17 points for the Panthers (4-2).
Newport Harbor 59, Westminster 52--The Sailors made 15 of 21 free throws in the fourth quarter. Chad Coluccio had 15 points and Wes Badorek had 13 points and eight rebounds for the Sailors (3-8).
Villa Park 51, Calvary Chapel 44--Eric Chenowith and Mark Saukkola each scored 17 points for Villa Park. Calvary Chapel (8-1) made six of 26 three-point attempts.
In nonleague girls’ soccer:
Fountain Valley 3, Mission Viejo 1--Debbie Blake and Kim Green each scored second-half goals to lead second-ranked Fountain Valley (6-0-2) past fifth-ranked Mission Viejo (5-2).
Capistrano Valley 4, Katella 0--Jen Tomczik scored three goals and Morgan Gilman had the other for fourth-ranked Capistrano Valley (7-1-1).
Loara 5, Western 0--Annabel Dostal scored all five goals for Loara (3-2-2).
Laguna Hills 4, Ocean View 0--Karine Inoue and Ashley Olivieri each had a goal and an assist for host Laguna Hills (7-1-1), ranked third in the county.
In the South Torrance boys’ tournament:
Santa Ana Valley 3, Santa Monica 0--Ernie Barragan had two goals for the Falcons (8-2-1) in a semifinal victory. Mejia also had a goal and two assists in a 3-0 victory over Foothill in the quarterfinals.
In nonleague boys’ soccer:
Santa Ana 4, Katella 0--Eddie Contreras had three saves and Sage Major had one in a combined shutout for top-ranked Santa Ana (7-0).
