HUNTINGTON BEACH : Bird-Watching Tours at Wetlands Planned
- Share via
The lesser scaups, red-breasted mergansers, white pelicans and red knots that make their winter home at the Bolsa Chica wetlands have arrived, and members of the environmental group Amigos de Bolsa Chica will be giving guided tours Jan. 6 of the migratory birds’ habitats.
Walks through the salt marshes and tidal estuaries will begin at 9 a.m. and depart every 20 minutes until 10:30 a.m. Tours will be led by naturalists familiar not only with the birds and their habits but also with wetlands plants and other wildlife.
Groups will meet at Pacific Coast Highway about half a mile south of Warner Avenue, across from Bolsa Chica State Beach. Organizers recommend that participants wear layered clothing and bring binoculars and bird identification books.
The wetlands are open to the public daily from sunrise to sunset.
