ORANGE : Students’ Gift Helps Keep Tours Moving
- Share via
For nearly 20 years, Prospect Elementary School students have studied California trees and plants at nearby El Modena High School’s nature paths, with high school students acting as guides for one-on-one tours.
This year, the younger students decided to give something back to the high school.
The youngsters have been gathering bottles and aluminum cans since the start of the school year.
They recently cashed in their collection for recycling and gave the proceeds--$94.60--to El Modena science teacher Jeanne Carter.
The gift was a happy surprise, Carter said. With an annual budget of only $150 to maintain the drought-resistant garden and nature center at the school, she said, any donation is welcome.
“The $95 means a lot,” she said.
Prospect teacher Paula Handler, who helped organize the drive, said the younger students reaped big benefits too.
“What we found,” she said, “was that the kids really love to give.”
