Nation IN BRIEF : OREGON : Flood Cleanup Efforts Underway
- Share via
Federal and state officials began organizing a massive cleanup effort after devastating flooding in the Pacific Northwest, while high water kept many communities isolated. Thousands were unable to return to their homes or businesses. In Lake Oswego, an exclusive town near Portland, officials warned residents to leave sandbags in place because of concern that a canal floodgate might give way. A search resumed for one or two men believed to have been in a pickup truck recovered in 8 feet of water near Salem. Interstate 5 was reopened, allowing traffic to resume between Portland and Seattle.
